Most "best glasses for women" round-ups treat width as an afterthought — shape first, colour second, size buried in a spec table nobody reads. That order works for the average 134 mm face. It fails the moment your temple-to-temple measurement crosses 145 mm.
This is the opposite list. Width first, then bridge, then shape, then colour. Every pick below is measured in millimetres, not styled in adjectives.
The rule
If a women's frame doesn't publish its total front width (hinge-to-hinge), assume it's under 140 mm and skip it. Lens width printed inside the temple ("52▢18 140") is not the number that decides fit.
How we ranked
- Front width first. The frame must publish a hinge-to-hinge measurement of 150 mm or more. No exceptions.
- Bridge width and shape. 20–22 mm keyhole preferred; saddle acceptable for broader noses.
- Material. Italian cellulose acetate holds tension at wider widths where injection-moulded plastic loosens within a season.
- Colourway. Translucent honey, smoke, or tortoise reads lighter than opaque black on a wider face — a small styling note the men's-first guides never mention.
Top picks — 2026
1. Woolet 007 — Round Panto, 158 mm (best overall)
Front width: 158 mm · Bridge: 21 mm keyhole · Temple: 148 mm · Material: Mazzucchelli Italian acetate · Colours: Dark Tortoise, Black, Honey · Price: $133 pre-order ($190 launch).
Soft round panto, deliberately unfussy. In our pre-order data this is the shape women pick most often once width is no longer the deciding constraint. Honey translucent is the quiet favourite — it keeps the 158 mm width without adding visual weight. Ships with clear demo lenses; add single-vision, progressive, or blue-light in-cart.

2. Woolet 009 — Soft Square, 158 mm (best for rounder face shapes)
Front width: 158 mm · Bridge: 22 mm keyhole · Temple: 148 mm · Material: Mazzucchelli Italian acetate · Colours: Dark Tortoise, Black · Price: $133 pre-order ($190 launch).
Soft square with a slightly higher brow line. Sits more deliberate on rounder face shapes where a full-round frame can flatten the vertical. The 22 mm keyhole bridge — a millimetre wider than the 007 — matters for anyone with a broader nasal base.

3. Woolet Bespoke — 150–172 mm (best for the 150–154 mm gap)
Front width: 150–172 mm to spec · Bridge: 16–26 mm · Material: Mazzucchelli Italian acetate, full palette · Shapes: 007 and 009 geometry.
The under-served band. Women between 150 and 154 mm of face width fall outside the standard women's range and below the "wide" specialist range — a gap most catalogues quietly ignore. Bespoke opens the full Mazzucchelli colour palette including translucents and crystal acetates typically requested by women buyers.

What to skip in 2026
- "Oversized women's" without a published front width. Almost always a larger lens on a standard 138 mm front — visually oversized, mechanically the same fit.
- Metal frames above 152 mm. Metal can be sized wider, but the hinge geometry does not hold tension on a wider face for long. Acetate is the more durable answer at this width.
- Petite cat-eyes and micro-ovals. Flattering on narrower faces, visually swallowed on wider ones. The frame stops reading as eyewear and starts reading as an accessory.
- Any pick sold purely on face-shape advice. If the seller does not publish the hinge-to-hinge width, they cannot tell you whether the frame will fit. Shape only matters after width fits.
Frame colour, on a wider female face
Opaque black in a 158 mm frame does more visual work than the same colour in a 138 mm frame — the frame itself is larger, so the outline reads heavier. Translucent acetates keep the same width without the added mass: honey, champagne, smoke, tortoise. Most women who order Woolet pick a translucent or tortoise; black is more often chosen by men. Both fit identically; the lighter colourways tend to feel more proportional.
How to find your number in 60 seconds
If you don't know your face width yet:
- FitLens scanner — phone camera, credit card for calibration, returns front width and bridge in about 20 seconds.
- Ruler method — measure temple-to-temple in millimetres, then subtract 2–3 mm to find your ideal frame front.
The short answer
For most women with a face width above 150 mm in 2026, the best glasses are a soft round panto (Woolet 007) or a soft square (Woolet 009) at 158 mm front width with a 21–22 mm keyhole bridge, in Italian Mazzucchelli acetate. If your face falls outside 155–161 mm, bespoke (150–172 mm) is the honest answer — every other route ends in a compromise.
