Glasses for big heads need a wider front, a stronger bridge and hinges that actually hold. Most optical frames stop at 138–148 mm and pinch anyone with a 58 cm+ head circumference. Woolet starts at 158 mm — round 007 and soft-square 009 — in hand made in EU from Italian Mazzucchelli acetate, prescription-ready, with bespoke sizing from 145–160 mm.

What counts as a big head in eyewear. Head circumference of about 58 to 64 cm. 58–60 cm is large (L), 60–62 cm is XL, above 62 cm is XXL. At those sizes the pain point is rarely the lens — it is the front width. Standard frames sit at 138–148 mm, so the temples splay outward, the hinges take all the load, and the bridge slides down the nose within an hour. Woolet's 158 mm front lets the temples sit naturally and the bridge carry weight evenly across the face.
Why acetate matters more at this size. Cellulose acetate holds the shape an optician sets; injection-moulded plastic loosens under heat — and a wider frame amplifies that drift. We use Italian Mazzucchelli, the same block material as Persol and Tom Ford, and hand-finish in the EU. Bigger frames also need stronger hinges: ours are 5-barrel PVD Gunmetal, rated for daily flex at 158 mm of front width.
Prescription-ready, both shapes. Take to any optician for single-vision, progressive or blue-light lenses. Lens area is 52 × 52 mm on the round 007 and 54 × 50 mm on the soft-square 009 — generous enough for progressives without optical distortion at the edges. Temples are 148 mm at 11°.

Read the guide: Best glasses for big heads in 2026, ranked by front width
Head circumference is measured around the widest part — above the ears and across the brow. Frame front width is the outside-to-outside measurement across the two lenses.
L · 58–60 cm head → 152–158 mm front. Woolet 158 mm standard fits the upper end of this range.
XL · 60–62 cm head → 158–164 mm front. Woolet 158 mm standard for the lower end; bespoke 160–164 mm for a precise fit.
XXL · 62 cm and above → above 160 mm may be needed; the widest Woolet front is 160 mm (bespoke) — measure first before ordering.
If you are between sizes, go to the next size up. A frame that is slightly wider than your head sits correctly; a frame narrower than your head pinches at the temples and slides on the bridge.
Most direct-to-consumer eyewear brands cap their widest frame at around 148–152 mm, which is still narrow for a 60 cm+ head. The shortlist of brands that genuinely fit big heads is small: a few extended-fit collections at large optical retailers, a handful of specialist brands, and Woolet.
Woolet is built around one constraint: wide faces and big heads. Every stock frame has a 158 mm front and bespoke covers 145–160 mm. There is no narrow stock line. You can view the 007 (round) or view the 009 (soft-square), or run the 30-second fit scan first to confirm 158 mm matches your head circumference.
Both shapes ship at 158 mm wide with a 21 mm bridge, engineered for faces in the 153-163 mm range. Outside that, bespoke covers 145 to 160 mm with the same 21 mm bridge. Use our AI Fit Wizard to confirm the right fit for your face.

What size glasses for a big head?
For a 58–60 cm head, a 152–158 mm front. For 60–62 cm, 158–164 mm. For 62 cm and above, more than 160 mm may be needed — the widest Woolet front is 160 mm (bespoke); measure first. Woolet's standard 158 mm front covers most large to XL heads; bespoke handles 145–160 mm.
What head size is considered big for glasses?
Roughly 58 cm and up. 58–60 cm is large, 60–62 cm is XL, above 62 cm is XXL. Mainstream frames at 138–148 mm pinch at any of these sizes.
Where to buy glasses for big heads?
A small group of brands actually fits 58 cm+ heads — most direct-to-consumer eyewear caps around 148 mm. Woolet offers a 158 mm stock front with bespoke from 145–160 mm in Italian Mazzucchelli acetate, prescription-ready.
How is this different from oversized glasses?
Oversized at most brands means a larger lens on the same 138–148 mm front. Woolet's front itself is 158 mm — both lens and front scale together, so the frame fits the head, not just the eyes.
Can I get prescription lenses fitted?
Yes. Both shapes ship ready for any optician to fit single-vision, progressive or blue-light lenses. Lens area is generous enough for progressives without distortion at the edges.
What if 158 mm is still too narrow?
Bespoke covers 145 to 160 mm of front width in either shape, with a 20–24 mm bridge and temples up to 155 mm. Same Italian Mazzucchelli acetate, hand made in EU to your measurement.
How do I measure my head circumference?
Wrap a soft tape around the widest part of your head, above the ears and across the brow. Anything 58 cm or above qualifies as a big head in eyewear terms.
When do pre-orders ship?
Founding-member pre-orders ship in waves through 2026. Bespoke orders take an additional 6 to 8 weeks after the standard batch.
