Mazzucchelli has been producing cellulose acetate near Milan since 1849. Its sheet stock is the material most luxury eyewear houses cut from — denser, more colour-stable and easier to hand-finish than the injection-moulded plastic that dominates the rest of the market. Woolet's sunglasses are cut from that stock and hand made in EU, in one precise 158 mm size per shape.

Woolet 009 — Soft Square
Soft-square Italian acetate frame, 158 mm wide with a 25 mm bridge. Bespoke from 145 to 160 mm.
There is a real difference between acetate-look plastic and cellulose acetate from a named Italian mill. Mazzucchelli sheet is made in batches, cured for weeks, and produces a frame that holds its shape across hot car interiors and cold mornings without flexing into the temples.
Both the 007 round and the 009 soft square are available with polarised or non-polarised tinted lenses. Frame geometry is identical to the optical versions — same precise 158 mm front, same 26 mm keyhole bridge — so if you already know your Woolet size from the optical line, your sunglasses size is the same.
Hand-finishing matters at 158 mm. A wider front means more surface area to bevel, polish and inspect. Machine polishing leaves a flat plane; hand polishing leaves a slight crown that catches light along the brow. This is the cue that separates Italian craft from contract manufacturing.
Run the AI Fit Wizard for sizing and use bespoke if your face width sits outside 153–163 mm.
Both shapes ship at 158 mm wide with a 25–26 mm bridge, engineered for faces in the 153-163 mm range. Outside that, bespoke covers 145 to 160 mm with a 20–26 mm bridge. Use our AI Fit Wizard to confirm the right fit for your face.

What is Italian acetate?
Cellulose acetate is a plant-based plastic made from cotton fibres. Italian acetate specifically refers to sheet stock produced by Italian mills — Mazzucchelli near Milan is the largest and most established. The sheets are cut, milled and hand-polished into frames.
Why Mazzucchelli specifically?
Mazzucchelli has been making acetate since 1849 and supplies most premium eyewear houses. Its batch-cured sheet is denser and more dimensionally stable than the injection-moulded plastic used in budget frames, which matters more on a wider 158 mm frame that spans a longer arc.
Are the sunglasses prescription-compatible?
Yes. Take the frame and your Rx to a qualified optician. Both shapes accept single-vision and progressive prescription tinted lenses.
What lens tint and UV protection do you offer?
Default lenses are CR-39 tinted to category 3, with 100% UVA/UVB protection. Polarised upgrade is available on both shapes.
How do I clean Italian acetate frames?
Lukewarm water and a drop of dish soap, then dry with the microfiber pouch the frame ships in. Avoid alcohol wipes — they dry out acetate over time and dull the polish.
Are the sunglasses Made in the EU?
The acetate is Italian (Mazzucchelli, Milan) and the hand-finishing — bevelling, polishing, inspection — is done in the EU. We do not claim each step of every component is Italian, which would be misleading.
