What Mazzucchelli acetate actually is. Cellulose acetate is a plant-based plastic spun from cotton and wood-pulp fibres, plasticised and cured into sheet stock. Mazzucchelli 1849 is the Italian mill that defined the modern process: pigment is layered into a block, the block is cured for several weeks, then sliced into sheets. The result is colour that runs through the material rather than sitting on top, and a polymer that holds its bevel across hot cars and cold mornings.
Why it matters on a wider frame. At 158 mm the front spans a longer arc than a standard 142–148 mm frame, so any flex or shrinkage shows up in the temples. Mazzucchelli sheet is denser and more dimensionally stable than the injection-moulded acetate-look plastic used in budget eyewear, which is why wider Woolet frames keep their geometry instead of bowing inward after a season.
Hand made in EU. Machine polishing leaves a flat plane; hand polishing leaves a slight crown along the brow that catches light differently.
